Notes |
- Richard Allender (b. 1810) was born in Pennsylvania as shown on the 1850 and 1880 censuses and on the 1900 Census, when the information is provided by his children who are now reunited since the 1880 Census and shown living together again in the same household. On the 1910, 1920, and 1930 censuses, they continue to supply information showing their father, Richard, as him he is shown as born in Maryland. This must be a mistake on the part of his children, due to a lapse in memory or a confused memory with their grandfather, John Allender (b. 1776) who lived with them as children and is shown on the 1850 Census to have been born in Maryland.
Also living with them on the 1850 Census is Catharine, born in 1787, grandmother to the children, and wife of John. Also with them is a John Flore (or Fore perhaps), age 16, who is apprenticing to be a wagon maker presumably. It could be that he is a relative, and that perhaps Catharine was Fore before marrying.
The Fore and Allender families have been close. Former area residents, Thomas Allender (b. 1784) and Margaret Fore were married about 1815, when Richard would have been 5 years old. At the time of the 1850 census Richard's family is the only Allender family left in McConnelsburg. Thomas and Margaret have settled in Iowa. Other Fore families continue to live in the area however.
Censuses for Richard's family have not been found for the years 1860 and 1870.
