    • It is not certain that Alonzo is a child of John and Minerva, or if he ever lived with them in IA --he may have stayed behind with relatives in OH. He may not be the Allender who is on the 1860 Census and working as a merchant in Scotland, MO. His first name and middle name are represented only by initials. The initial for the first name looks very much like an H., rather than an A., as the indexers have it.
      In the 1870 Census he is shown as Head of household, with Minerva, keeping house, and her younger children, including Hattie, who is born in Nevada. They are all listed by the surname Allendt which may be a Spanish spelling for the Allender name. Minerva is also shown on a later page as head of household and as farmer and here Thompson and Mary J. are included, along with all of Minerva's younger children and Hattie.
      No 1880 Census listing has been found for Alonzo, but on the 1900 Census Alonzo is working as a farmer and he is shown as a widower.
      The 1910 Census shows him as married to Sarah B., and he is the father of three stepchildren. The Census indicates that this is a second marriage for both Alonzo and Sarah. He is working as an agent in real estate. Neither he nor Sarah have been located on the 1920 Census. On the 1930 Census they are living in CA and Alonzo is 87 years old and is not working. His first marriage was at age 30.
      No death record has been found for Alonzo. The death record for Sarah is in the Washington State records, so perhaps she has gone to live near one of her children after Alonzo's death.
