      Edward benefited from the will of his father-in-law, George Crawford, in 1819. His own will, only 12 years later, was given orally, under duress, and attested to later by those present. A portion of it has been transcribed as follows:
      February 15th 1831
      Mr. Edward Allender's last request was that his wife Margaret Allender should have all his property "to do with as she pleases all except the saw mill place in the state of Ohio and that I give to George C Allender as I think he has earned it and will have to help raise the rest of the children" Likewise, he said that he did not wish them to make (over)due as it will save cost.

      Personally appeared before me Register for the Probate of Wills and granting letters of Administration in and for the County, James W Hampton and John Philiber who on their oaths do say that, the above writing was made at the request of Edward Allender (???)writing on the day of the above date by John Philiber aforesaid and that at the particular request of said Allender.(???)further say that Mr. Allender was very ill, and at the time the the request was made, he was as they believe of sound mind, memory, and understanding and that it was during his last illness and in his own house, and further that both have a perfect recollection of the very words spoken March 3, 1831
